This morning my apartment complex had a power surge. I guess my surge protector didn't quite do it's job. When I got up, my computer was off. I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened (I'm on my PS3 right now). I know absolutely nothing about computer hardware. I had my buddy come over whom is dang near a computer genius. He took out the power supply and thought that was it. We could smell burnt rubber/wires. I had an extra power supply that came with my computer case, so he put that in. Still nothing happened. He then took out the power supply of my other friend's computer, and still the same result. He checked the ram and it seemed fine. So, the only thing he could think of was the motherboard. Any other suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated if any of you think it could be something else.

I have been searching online all over the place for the motherboard. I tried Newegg, ebay, google search, etc. Any place that came up with it said it was discontinued and they didn't have it.

Oops. Haven't quite got the hang of using the PS3. I accidently posted it in the Powersupply forum.

The motherboard I'm looking for is as below

    ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe
    CrossFire Ready
    Duel PCI-E X16 Graphics
    Socket 939

My friend that was helping me said something about it being 2x16, so I don't know. Like I said, I don't know anything about this kind of stuff. But, he's the one that built this computer for me in the first place, so I guess he knows what he's talking about. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, if you've tried the likes of eBay, outside of finding one on some forum, you're probably going to have a hard time finding a Socket 939 board supporting Crossfire. You might look around for the DFI CFX-3200 or Abit AT8, but the odds aren't in your favor as SLI was much more popular for Socket 939 back then. Unless you can find one relatively cheap, it might be better to just wait until you can upgrade the CPU, motherboard and RAM.

If you still want to make use of Crossfire, you'll need to get into an AM2/AM2+ board that supports it, and those would use an AMD 780 or 790 series chipset. You'd also need to get an AM2 CPU and some DDR2 RAM, as your current CPU and RAM are incompatible with any modern motherboard.
