    Hi all,

I would like to defrag my HDD. I am using Windows Vista (64bit) and I heard that the windows defrag tool is not as good as some existing software out there on the net.

I currently use Tune-Up Utilities 08 for all my needs but it is saying that my HDD does not need to be defragmented at this time. Since it believes my C drive doesn't need defragging I can't do it.

I would like to defrag and would like to know if there are any good software out there that can help; remember I am using Vista 64bit.

I have heard of one tool called defraggler from the makers oc CCleaner which is supposed to be good; can anyone confirm, or do they have other options I could go for?

Thanks for any and all help!

Windows Vista automatically schedules disk defragmentation so you don't have to worry about it

Ahhh, well then I guess that explains why Tune-Up keeps saying I don't need it. The thing is though, I don't ever remember Vista doing a defrag, unless it quietly runs in the background? and doesn't ask permission?

You can control whether windows defrag does this or not. It may or may not be doing that on a regular basis...It depends on your settings.

I use Defraggler - Defragment your files! Does a better job than Windows.

I use Diskeeper08, paid but works great on Vista. Can be set to automatic mode and also has a graphic display You can download a trial version and decide.

I don't have X64, but on my Vista 32 bit, I use Diskeeper Professional 2008, and it's awesome. It's quick, very competent, has a nice GUI, and can run in the fully automatic mode, so I've never defragged any of the 4 drives after installing it. IIRC, X64 is supported too, so it should work without any problems.
