"Keyboard error or no keyboard present" at boot up

I've had my computer for a few years now and about 1 year in it's present configuration. I was working quite happily a couple of nights ago when all of a sudden the keyboard and mouse stopped working. I assumed the PC had crashed so powered off and on again.

On boot up I got the BIOS error: "Keyboard error or no keyboard present" and I couldn't get past it.

I have a wireless USB Logitech keyboard and mouse which have worked for the life of the PC. I've changed the batteries and the USB socket all to no avail. I unplugged all the other USB devices and that didn't help either.

Last night I went out and bought a new wired keyboard and mouse and I'm still getting the error!

Any ideas?

Check the bio's to see if you have any changes.. Also pull the battery out for a couple minutes and reinstall to see what happens...

Most keyboards and mice of these days got a plug to connect USB to PS/2 connections. These are a green and a purple plug (http://www.genovation.com/images/USB-TO-PS2.JPG). The keyboard uses purple and the mouse uses green. Connect these to the traditional ports on the computer and try again. But first try the solution of Ghostman1 above here.

I can't check the bios without a working keyboard. I'll see if taking the battery out for a bit helps though.

Unfortunately neither of my keyboards have a PS2 adapter. I'll try and borrow a PS2 keyboard from work.

I removed the battery on the motherboard last night for about 5 minutes and replaced it to still have the same problem.

However I heard that sometime the BIOS needs a longer time to reset. So I removed the battery again and left it out over night. Suffice to say it worked this morning!
