cant format new sata drive

    installed ok using sata power and just sata data straight to the motherboard its a seagate 500gb 32mb cache finds it whn seting up windows then i partioned it and carryed on to format and install but whn format finishes it says cant format drive drive damanged or scsi jumpers not set but i aint using jumpers help plz and i aint got a floppy drive

    Try some software called GParted. When it downloads, you burn the image to a disk, and boot from the disk. When booted, you could try formatting again. I've always had success with GParted where other programs have failed.

    yep, i agree about Gparted, you can download the LiveCD of Gparted here

    BTW: what OS are you using ?

    im on xp and its my brotherinlaws pc so i dont know wht spec it is got some idea

    ok, it's XP, but what SP (service pack) 1, 2 or 3 ?

    i cant installl windows to use it the harddrive is new it finds the drive but whn installing windows it formats upto 100% then says cant format drive it could be damanged or if ur using scsi then set jumpers but i aint using scsi im use sata power and data leads

    its ok sorted it used hiren boot disc thxs anyway
