The TIM burn in should be complete. So the OC begins! Specs: Mother Board: Asus M3A32-Mvp Deluxe Wifi W/Mempipe Cpu: AMD Phenom II 940 x4 3.0ghz AM2+ Random Access Memory: Muskin DDR2 1067 Cooling Type: Liquid Cooled Video Out: 4850x2 Crossfired with 4850 (tri Fire) MoBo Bios Version: 1502 Ati Driver version: Catalyst version 9.2 Testing OS: XP64 and Windows 7 AMD Over Drive Version: V 2.1.6 The cpu is stable stock @ 3ghz and a voltage of 1.35v stock. My first attempt will be an OC on stock voltages. Which I might add are higher than I expected. So on that note I will lower them to 1.3 volts. I will do mostly multiplier OC's for this. The second one is stock. Yea I use AOD. Works wonders for this type of tweaking. Something Bios does not offer....At least on this particular board.
I keep mine running at 3.52ghz, as other tests have shown that the true power consumption of the chip over 3.6ghz is quite in-efficient. Gotta be kind to ol' mother earth It is a great cpu to overclock though, first time i've done it in years really.
That's strange. I had the voltage at stock at 3.6ghz. I thought the speed for the lack of voltage increase was just fine. But being I bought this proccessor vs using a older one, I am saving mother earth lol. Glad to see you Over Clocking again on the besides of things. It is fun to raise scores and get better frame rates in games or just to have the extra mhz just to have it lol.
No i was referring to the actual wattage consumption - the voltage is pretty much irrelevant apart from the obvious stability issue. I got that information from here however I don't have the time or inclination to measure this for myself ^_^: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Overclocking Performance - TechSpot Or to quote from "A sweet spot could have been achieved by running the Phenom II X4 940 at 3.5GHz without any voltage increases, though this may not have been enough to beat the Core 2 Quad in a majority of tests like we just showed. Meanwhile, the Core i7 920 is making a showing by offering better performance and efficiency, albeit the increased cost. " You had it running at 3.6 you say without any voltage increase? - I couldn't get that stable on Prime 95 stress test and it needed a 0.025 voltage increase on my system.
Nope no problems running Prime. Full load benchmarks 3dmark 06, general usage, folding and gaming. All day stock volts. Of course I Do over volt slightly when just generally using it. I don't really dig Intel so much and I never compared this to a i7 920 or larger. AMD themselves said the Phenom II was directly compared to the core2quads. i7 and i5 are basically in a class of their own. Although for some certain things AMD offers better to me personally.
QFT Have you run 3dmark vantage on yours yet? I'd be interested what your cpu score is in it (on 3.52ghz mine gets 37055)
Actually no I have not yet. I Installed Windows 7 and I haven't gotten to see if Vantage will even install yet. It should I would thinks. But I can tell you that in XP I hit 20k
