excel help

    Hi guys am new to the forum and just trying to learn the basics about computers.i have a spreadsheet that was emailed to me to work out ratings for horses on.i cant type anything into it at all.i sent my friend it and its ok on his comp.the guy who sent me it asked if i had the full excel.not sure what this means so googled it and am no wiser.can i get this for free please.any help would be much thanks in advance

    If you only have the Excel viewer, then that would be why.

    The free solution is an alternative to Microsoft Office, called Open Office. It should be able to open, edit and save Microsoft Office files, so I'd give that a go :)

    thanks guys have downloaded office and its still not working. have to get it working as it cuts my work down by household it be locked or something. thanks

    do you get a error message or something? are you certain open office can't open this file? how did you try and open this file?

    i clicked on it in my docs i tried going on file open for editing and a message comes up saying "cannot find any version of microsoft excel to open this file for editing.

    on first run the appliction you installed "open office" then go to

    File -> Open and then browse to the excel file

    or right click on the file and select "open with..." this will give you a list of applications you can use to open the file, select "open office"

    thanks sniper i downloaded excel trial for 60 days and got it working. will try open office when it expires. thanks a lot for all the help :)
