I'm just wondering which one would be best for gaming coupled with Vista Ultimate x64 and an HD 4870x2 If possible I'd also like an estimate on how long I can play most recent games until. Choices are ASUS P6T Intel Socket LGA1366 Barebone Kit - Intel Core i7 920, 12GB Corsair DDR3-1333, 1TB SATA2, Clear Side ATX Mid-Tower, 650W and Visionman BBA-377X00 AMD Gaming Barebones - AMD X4 Phenom 9950 Black Edition / MSI K9A2 Platinum / 4x Crossfire / 2GB DDR2-1066 / Flash Reader / Gigabit & Wireless LAN / NO Video / 850 Watt Thank you.
go for the core I7 no doubt 1mb L2 cache 256kb per core back up by a 8mb L3 cache. intergrated memory controller on the cpu runs latest tech QPI. good solid intel board, tripple channel DDR3 upto 2000mhz!! which is a 50% increase in bandwidth from DDR2 dual channel. 2nd generation SLI 16x/16x/4x. E-sata port, shame it doesnt have SAS ports for 15,000rpm harddrives and solid state. should have ferrite core chokes, mosfet heatsinks which are always a good thing, them mosfet voltage regulators can get pretty hot when uppin cpu voltage for OCing. solid caps. anyway enuff chat i think you shud go for that one
Thank you both, my only question now is will the power supply be enough for all that stuff and a 4870x2?
It should be enough for the system itself. If your going to add things to it after you buy it you may need a little better PSU.
you will need a better power supply than that, them ATi Radeons 4870x2 do suck up alot of power I would go 750 - 800w to be on the safe side. BUT in the future if your gonna upgrade to Quad crossfire X two ATI Radeons 4870x2, you will need around 1000w psu. excellent brands of psu are Enermax Enermax Galaxy 1000W Modular PSU EPS12v Triple Quad +24 Rails Silent EGA1000EWL- microdirect.co.uk
I'm not sure if this belongs in here or not, since its kind of about advice for an upgrade/new build, I'll ask it anyways. After I upgrade it to a 1000w PSU should I get the 4870x2 or a GTX 295?
hey dude, Personally I think the GTX 295 is the best choice, but you will get ATI fan boys who will disagree. The GTX 295 does beat the ATI 4870X2 in most games. So personally I would go for the GTX 295. if you do upgrade to 1000w PSU, you will be able to run one GTX 295 easily and in the future if you decide to go Quad SLI (two GTX 295's) the 1000w psu will be efficent.
You have a huge difference between the two choices the first choice has 12GB DDR3 which i don't believe anyone one needs lol and the second choice has only 2GB DDR2, anyways my personal opinion would be not to get any of the two just build your self a better spec rig for what you need and at cheaper price so also save your self some money, just a thought.
oh yea another thing about the GTX 295's is they blow hot air into the case instead of out the case lol don't know why, could be a design defect. So your gonna need some good cooling going on with the 295's. BTW: are you watercooling or AIR Cooling?
hey, are you plannin on overclocking your cpu? if so, heres a badboy heatsink, full copper thermalright ultra 120A http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=12507. I have a standard Thermalright 120A heatink in my computer, and my cpu runs idle at 35C. so Imagine wt the full copper Thermalright Ultra 120A can do
