Hi there, I have bought a Dell PowerEdge 800 workstation but it stopped working. I bought it from a 'friend' so i cant get any support. I have checked everything and it must be the BIOS or the board thats has something wrong. Since i cant easily get another equal BIOS CHIP and write the bios again, i will have to replace the mother board right? Do i need to buy a Power Edge 800 board or another one similar might work (PE700 or upper)? can any one help me on this? it seems i cant get any help anywhere... A friend of mine working at support at IBM said it should be the BIOS thats wrecked... Tks, Pedro
Hi, what happens when you push the power button? I take it your bios doesn't post? that could be other factors, not always a faulty bios chip. Have you tried to revive your system by trying the following: 1.Reset Cmos 2.Try one module of ram at a time in each dimm, if no luck try a another module of ram. 2.Re-seat graphics card, if no luck try another graphics card. 3.Re-seat processor 4.try another power supply. Basically they are vital in order for your bios to post. If no luck doing the following its most likely faulty bios chip. Or a faulty motherboard. If you can list the full specs of the machine I will let you know what motherboard you can buy to get it running again.
I have done all that with no luck... Its a Dell Power Edge 800, Model "MVT" In the manual technical sepcs it doesnt say the board model, but it says the cpu, FSB, Internal Cache, Bus type, expansions slots, memoery arch, etc so maybe that way you can understand the exact model...

Its got sata 2, pci express x16 slot, pci slots, etc.
