    Hi,
My desktop (Lenovo, M55e, WinXP Pro (SP3)), shows the following symptoms:
    1. Each few minutes the fans (I believe) start operating with high speed.
    2. The system stops, or at least slows down.
    3. When the volume of noice reduces, the operation returns to normal.

This cycle occurs each minute or two.

    What's wrong?

    Correction - NOISE, not "noice"

Is this a Tower or Suit case ? I would check your Processor Fan first, It is probably going out. can you open the case.. and turn it on to see where the NOISE is coming From ?

you say you heard a bang? - followed by a boost in the rpm fan speeds and slower performance.

this sounds like the cpu heatsink has popped off one of its clamps and the cpu isnt fully cooling down and as a result the pc is throttling the cpu to counter the heat, hence the faster rpm speeds - worth checking the temps in bios, should be 25 - 45'c for normal operation

check the heatsink clamp locks to the mobo, its better to take the whole thing off, clean the paste and reapply your own if you have some
