I'm wanting to upgrade my computer. I just recently intalled norton 360, and now my computer runs very.. very slow. It has an AMD Sempron 1.3Ghz and 1 stick of 256MB RAM. There is only one more slot for a stick of ram to go though. Would gettin another stick a ram do the job or am i better off just gettin a new motherboard, cpu, ect..?

Really the only things i do on this computer is surf the internet and play warcraft 3. Ever since i installed Norton, though, war 3 will barely play. I need norton as for i do my all my bills online as well.

Hi, yes another stick of ram can make a difference if your motherboard supports dual channel configuration. Reason why your system is running slow is because alot of anti virus programs do use alot of memory bandwidth and in your case your running single channel configuration is even less performance. I would recommened upgrading your ram from 256mb to atleast 2GB. post your motherboard make and model and we will advise you on what ram to buy. we will select appropriate memory bus speed and memory capacity.

Me and my buddy built this computer 4+ years ago. It has a MSI N1996 motherboard, Radeon 9200 AGP 128mb, a 40G ps2 hard drive lol(maxtor), and a samsung cd drive/writer.

Yeah thats what i figured. I wanna do this as cheap as possible. We have another computer in the other room that is much faster and has vista (just bought it), ,but my wife hogs it lol. It ran fine before I installed norton and really all i want to do is make up for what norton has taken away. Thanks for all your help. :)

yea because your board supports maximum of 1GB and your going to buy a 1GB module so one slot will be unused, and it doesn't support dual channel so no need in buyingn two sticks of ram.

So if i buy 2 512mb sticks of ram my computer will only use 512mb of ram? That's just dumb as h*ll, then again i believe the motherboard only cost me like 18$$ back in the day.

no it will still access both modules of ram but you will not benefit having two 512mb modules of ram because your motherboard does not support dual channel configuration. so what im saying is you might as well buy one module of ram @ 1gb.

True, but two 512mb sticks will most likely be cheaper than one 1gb stick, and both will provide the exact same performance. Either way, you'll probably only be spending around $20, so you can't go wrong.
