Hey guys, I have a HP Compaq nc8430 and recently I've been having a problem with my DVD-R drive. It is the standard drive that came with the computer. Recently, it will be in the middle of reading a disc and it will either just stop or it will stop and the disk tray will open. In addition, the drive will just randomly start reading a disk in the drive even when I don't access the drive. Its driving me crazy. I was just wondering if anyone has run into the same problem or if anyone knows how to deal with it. And oh yea, I upgraded to vista a few months ago, but I'm pretty sure this has happened before I upgraded. Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance. Dave
how old is this computer ?It sounds like the drive is wore out, It looks like it is time for a new one.
