If you are a graphics designer, I suggest you use a quad core then.
    Like a Q9550 or Q8600

no, core 2 duo is a gret cpu, overclocks like a champ and will never slow down.

Also if you are going to be doing designs you realize you need a good video card and a multi core cpu, 4 gigs of ram and a big HDD.
That will not be a cheap laptop.

I would say go with a goo dekstop also remember you can NOT upgrade CPU, video card in a laptop.

I know you aren't from America, but here would be an exmaple laptop I wouls suggest for you.

    Newegg.com - HP HDX 18-1180US NoteBook Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000(2.00GHz) 18.4" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT - Laptops / Notebooks

but if you made a desltop it would be much much cheaper.

If you want to see a quad core desktop look at this thread, and look at the multi tasking machine.
    http://www.hardwareforums.com/list-computers-26220/

Also, it can be cheaper and it will save you in the long run because you will be just able to upgrade it instead of needing a new one like you would a laptop.

Core 2 Duo without a doubt.

like I said, I think you should go with a quad core though.
