Built a new machine and things installed just fine. However, none of the mice I try work like they should. The left button doesn't work. I've tried USB and wireless (4 total) and they all work the same. I can only get it to work for icons on the desktop but folders or web pages.....nothing......will work with the left button. Different USB ports etc. I've tried removing the device, and Windows (7) picks it up and installs it. Device manager shows it clean and working. Google shows this problem but all the suggestions don't work for me. I'm out of ideas.
It works with icons on the desktop? You can doubleclick and drag those around with the left button? All the other mouse buttons work fine? Did it ever work correctly, or did you have this problem right after you installed windows and booted up the system?
It's a new build but I've tried many other mice with the exact same problem. I can start a program from the desktop only but once it's open, no way is the left button doing it's business. I contacted ASUS and they say it's likely a flaky I/o controller. I find that hard to believe but sinces it's new, I'll bite and have another sent to me to see what happens.
That is weird, and it seems kind of odd that it would be the I/O controller if it works fine on the desktop. It sounds like a software/driver issue more than anything. You double checked the mouse settings? The buttons didn't get accidentally reassigned or anything like that? You're running the default mouse drivers, no third party ones?
Yep, checked all the settings. Even switched the buttons around so that the right button did what the left one. No joy on that either. But, the only thing that made me bite on sending it back was the problem was in the BIOS as well. It is definitely weird stuff. Thanks for your help.
Nope, the same thing happens using Express Gate. I can hover the mouse over the Express Gate icons and they will 'glow' but right clicking them does no good. I have to use the keyboard for it to work.
