I have a dell Inspiron 1521. The computer is only 2 years old, and is no longer under warranty. Yesterday my computer screen started flickering then eventually went all black, but the computer was still running. I plugged it into my roommates monitor and the screen did appear on his monitor but not on my laptop. I then shut down my computer for a few hours to see if it would work, and it worked the rest of the night flickering once or twice but never fading or going completely black. Now this morning the screen is completely black again. Can anyone please help me out with this problem or inform me about what I can do to fix it. Thanks in advance
Sounds like the lead to the back light is partially broken. When the screen is black (or if it is back on...) try and move the screen forward and backwards and see if it flickers or even comes back. Otherwise, perhaps the light itself is about to shine its last light... There is not much you can do unless you are willing to replace the lead or the light or both. It is not that difficult but involve taking some of the laptop apart. I would recommend confirming with Dell first. You should be able to chat live to an engineer in the support area of their site. Look on the bright side.... if the light is gone you can still connect the laptop to an external monitor. If the issue was the graphics chip or the motherboard, the repair would have been even more extensive... perhaps even better off to get a new laptop.... But if you are not planning to replace the laptop any time soon, it may still be worth repairing.....
