Hello guys, an evga 7600 gt and 2 evga 8800 gt have died on my system, i dont overclock or anything like that. Last 8800 gt was sent as an RMA for the one i had and lasted less than a month, right now im using a 7950 gt i had as spare, and seems to be doing well. Anyone has an idea of what might be happening? Thx in advanced.
well, as obvious as it might sound, I think the motherboard's faulty. Giving too much current into the video card or something. Maybe you ought to check the BIOS settings - it could be that some turbo boost setting is set to, well, turbo boost and that's killing those cards off. What motherboard do you have, anyway? On the side: it might, of course, be possible, too, that all of those cards where faulty themselves in the first place... :x: going for a hat-trick there...
My Mother Board is a gigabyte, ps3 i think. My PSU is Ultra with arround 39 A on 12 V rail 600 W Who is the main suspect guys? How can i check??
Never heard of the brand Ultra before, sounds like it's just a cheapo mostly likely be getting around 400W out of it even though it's rated at 600W. when you had you card connected up did they require 2x 6pin power or 2x8 pin power connectors?
Ultra has had some good units in the past, but unfortunately a lot of their stuff hasn't been up to snuff. I would look to replace that unit first with something like a Corsair, Seasonic, or Thermaltake unit. All have a solid track record on the PSU front. If none of those are available, look for some Antec units with a 600-700W, but avoid the Basiq line. Those have terrible performance and won't help your situation.
I stopped suspecting of the PSU because a friend of mine who had the exact same PSU as me and another 8800 gt (we both got the same combo) never had problems with it, and gave it to me, so the third card that died, died with his PSU which was working well for him... should i still consider the PSU as a possible problem?
If he's had it for awhile without issue, then, yeah the PSU would be eliminated as a suspect. I do know that some Ultra PSU's were quite decent, but last time the reviews I read gave some low marks to their performance and ability.
