    Hello everyone,

I am a broke-as-a-joke college student(Mechanical Engineering major) who enjoys building things, just to clear the issue on why I am attempting what I am attempting. I have an old desktop computer that I am not really using. I also have 3 HDD, 2 IDE and 1 SATA. I would like to use the old computer as basically a external hard drive enclosure. I know this may be ridiculous, but I would really like to build it instead of spend my money which I prefer to go to Beer and Ramen Noodles. Is this impossible/impractical? If so I am just going to rig it all up inside the old case so it at least looks nice.

    Thanks for any advice.

You probably could but don't think it'd be worth it plus its not that practical.

First, you'd have to turn the computer on/off to access its content because it will function more like a network drive rather than a HD.

I'd recommend selling the old computer and buying a external HD enclosure.
