Hi all, This is the first time I've built my own computer, and as such, have been dithering since before Christmas. So now I've decided to enlist a little help from the kindly people of the internet, in making my choices. I'm mainly seeking help on what case, fans and PSU would be appropriate for the system, since I've no idea where to start with those (size, power, brand, how do I know it will all fit in the case?), but also wanted to check if I was at least getting reasonable value for money with the current components. I'm aware that it may be slightly over the top, with value for money I more mean is there one component which is significantly worse than the others, and as such is creating a performance bottleneck. Relevant Information Budget of roughly £1500 (not including OS or monitor/speakers/other peripherals) Intended to last ~5-8 years OS Win7 and small Fedora partition I would prefer 1 big fan over lots of small fans for noise minimum PSU wattage would be better (computer will be running a lot, and I want to keep electricity bills down) I prefer plain cases to flashy ones. The less LED's the better. But I'm more curious as to how I know what size case to get. Current Hardware Intended (but not yet purchased) Asus Intel Ultimate Bundle (P6X58D-E Motherboard, Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz Processor) Link [*]Corsair Dominator Memory 12GB (6x2GB) Link [*]Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti 900MHz 1GB Pre-overclocked Link [*]Crucial 128GB RealSSD 2.5" SSD SATA 6GB/s Link (Any SSD to run OS & applications from - I figured that since the motherboard supported 6GB/s SATA I should utilise it) [*]Samsung 2TB SATA3 32MB Hardrive Link (Just wanted any 2TB harddrive to act as music/tv/movie storage - yes I will fill it up, I have a lot of movies in full HD - this one seemed alright) Well I've realised that all those components are pretty much out of date, so no longer considering those ones. Many Thanks
It's hard to recommend since i'm not sure what you want to be doing with the system. Is your budget of 1500 for an entire system or just PSU, fan, case...? Fun fact - You can buy a 1000 watt power supply if you wanted to and still have low electricity bills. What matters is how much of the 1000 watt's your system is using up. So, you're not always going to consume 1000 watts... only what your system is demanding
