A P4 motherboard can support ATA / 100, hard disk and signal lines also can support ATA / 100, and also installed the corresponding ATA / 100 drivers, but when system self-check, just show support ATA / 33
are you using a 40pin or 80pin IDE cable? http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html you need to be sure your using the 80 pin. if this is not the case... tell us what your make/model of your motherboard and hard drive.

where did you see ata / 33 ? did you check the bios to see what ata it says there? what os are yo running? tell us which hard drive you have and what motherboard you have. otherwise i don't know what else to tell you.
