I'm looking into getting the Radeon 7970 which has 1 dvi port, 2 mini-display ports, and 1 hdmi port. Just for the sake of knowledge, pretend the hdmi ports don't exist. Now I know you can get mini-display to dvi converters so I can essentially connect up to 3 monitors. But is there anyway to make this video card display say 4 monitors? Could I use a KVM switch in this case?

A KVM switch is definitely not what you want. It allows you to control several computers from a single set of a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I'm curious as to why you want to ignore the HDMI port. You have 4 outputs and choosing to ignore one...I'm not sure I understand.
