Hey- I'm pretty new to the whole computer hardware/ software world but very much want to become active within it. Are there any suggestions where to begin? I've read a couple of the thread posts on here and have already learned a couple of things, or at least am beginning to piece together various things. I am aware this thread is vague, but I was just throwing it out there to see if there were any websites that provide good, basic information or some sort of organizer that presents various hardware capability format (I'm unsure of how to check whether or not two pieces of hardware will work with each other). Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hi! If you are looking for a website that provide good and basic information, try to visit this site http://www.techyv.com/tips or here http://www.techyv.com/articles/hardware. They answer questions about software and hardware so if you encountered an error you can post a question or search for a solved one. Hope this helps!
Read everything. No, I'm not being sarcastic, it's just that this is a whole can of worms. To narrow your search, read up on the following: -CPU Sockets --Intel: LGA 1155, LGA 2011 --AMD: FM1, AM3 -CPU's ---Intel: Sandy Bridge, Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge ---AMD: Trinity, Phenom, Bulldozer/FX, Piledriver Expansion slots: Not to toot my own horn, but http://www.hardwareforums.com/threads/pci-x-pcie-pci-and-agp-differences.9844/]this is relevant. Memory: http://www.hardwareforums.com/threads/ddr-speeds-pcxxxx-to-ddrxxx-cheat-sheet.11140/]Another info bit I did awhile back. Also add DDR3 as that's the current standard. That's a good bit to start with for now. I'm trying to focus on more current items with some of the more recent hardware.
