Hi guys I'm having some issues with my network at home. This is my setup Modem provider --> Switch Cisco small business --> Broadband Router When I attack an ethernetcable to the router, the pc can can connect to the router, but I don't get a connection with the internet. The settings are probably incorrect. Below you can find the most important settings I can configure. By my knowing, the Cisco switch automatically gives an IP-adress. Thanks!
Switches don't use IP addresses, as they operate on a different layer in networking. If you connect the router directly to the modem, does the connection work properly?
Same results. My laptop finds the router (and the router find the modem) but I can't connect to the internet. So their must be a problem with the settings of the router.
Does your ISP require a "computer name" or "host name" to be set? If so, please change the computer name in the router accordingly. Also have you made sure that the modem is connected to the WAN port on the router and the computer is connected to one of the LAN ports? I would also suggest connecting the switch to one of the LAN ports on your router instead of between the modem and router.
RH is correct, modem connected to WAN port of router and always connect a switch to LAN, i suggest you read and understand this at tomshardware's excellent site
