Hi I hope someone can help. I don't think they should sell computers to idiots like me!
    :(

I have XP installed (from new). Every time I try to open control panel it crashes. I have tried to fix it with the restore CD but it doesn't seem to work. I'm quite probably being really stupid but I'm flummoxed!

Can any knowledgeable person help me please???

    Thank you sooooooooooooo much
    :chk:

boland, whether he is accessing his control panel because he needs to uninstall something, check disk management, or just because the control panel gives him sexual excitement... he still has a problem with it crashing.

I would suggest going to the windows updated site and downloading ALL the available Windows XP updates, drivers and service packs.

what other way would that be?

The point of a control panel is to group all of the "controls" on the pc. they can't be accessed anywhere else on the PC, except *maybe* with in the WINDOWS directory, which is unlikely.

Waffle, each and everything on the computer, including any hidden files, programs, or control panel modules can be accessed by anyone, you just have to know where to find them..

However this is not the problem, it's like saying the engine in my car won't start and to start it instead of trying to find the problem, you use some really long and unnecerssary way of starting it..

Personally to be safe, i would do this:

Update your anti-virus, do a full virus scan (get an anti-virus program if u don not have one already) (Search for: AVG (Grisoft make it) its free)

Download and Update your spyware and do a full search (download SpyBot Search And Destroy if u dont have anti-spyware)

Download all Windows Updates for your operating system even if u don't want some of them.

Download all MS Office Updates for your operating system even if u don't want some of them.

If it still doesn't work i suggest as a last resort that you do a clean install of windows, ie: Backup your files, to CD / Network drive / USB Drive / DVD or some other media then do a clean Format of you hard drive, then do a new install of your windows.
