I am curious about the best way, and best program to use to back up your dvd collection. My buddy told me about dvdxcopy, said he uses it and likes it. However I understand that that company is not allowed to sell this product with the ripper included, meaning you cant back up your dvd collection due to copyright laws, if I understand correctly. If anybody has any info or suggestins on what programs to use i would really appreciate it. Preferably a program that will come with a ripper. Thanks

Depends on if you prefer speed or image quality.

Doom9.org has quite a few tutorials and downloads worth checking out.

If you want a compromise between speed & quality though I'd probably recommend DVD Shrink.

If i am going to use dvd shrink, would that require me to use a seperate program to burn it onto a dvd that i could watch in my living room? If so, what are some good programs I can use? Thanks for the help.

If you have Nero it will burn directly from the program. Apart from that any burning program should be able to handle the .iso files it creates although I am partial to DVD Decrypter.

I downloaded dvd shrink, and have a burning program on my computer. However i dont understand how to go from dvd shrink onto the disk. Or even the steps i have to take to rip the dvd, if you could give me a couple quick steps to follow I would greatly appreciate it.

If the dvd your backing up can fit on a dvd-r/+r you can just click on File > Open Disc > Backup.

On the backup screen if you have Nero installed it will default to burn with DVD burner &Nero, if you drop down that box you will see create .iso & HD Folder.

If you have DVD Decrypter installed you will get the added option of create iso and burn with dvd decrypter.

Select your option and if you've made an .iso backup just open whatever burning program your running and select burn image and select the image name of your backup.

ok, I have nero installed, but when i went to backup! it only gave me the option of putting it on my hard drive. Is this another way to back it up? And do i have to do anything special for the nero burn now option to come up in that drop box? And i was also curious how long it usually takes for dvd shrink to compress a dvd so its ready to burn. Thanks

Is there a way to speed up the whole encoding process? Its taking a little over an hour per dvd. Thanks

Depending on the DVD and whether or not you have to shrink it, it's fairly normal to take between 45 minutes and 3 hours.

When you goto the backup menu is their anything listing your burner? Normally you should get burn to target with your drive highlighted and at the bottom a spot for the program to make a temporary file on your HD.

yes i have it figured out now, however when i tried to burn the first dvd, it went through the whole process then at the end it hung up on the finalizing screen. I let it sit there for anhour and nothing happened. I took the blank dvd out and there was noting on it. Any ideas why this might happen? Once again thanks for your help
