ok so, i got the processor and it fits the mother board fine. my pc works other wise i would not be writing this. my problem is that when i boot up my pc it says Unknown CPU type 1200mhz, when i know its a sempron 3000+. i have the mother board set to default as when i tried to boot it with the new cpu before, i got that internal beeping. default settings have been selected and it works. how do i get it to recognise the processor properly? cheers phil AMD Sempron 3000+ Gigabyte GA-7VAXP rev 1.2 windows xp 1.5 gig ram
Unless I read this wrong, which is likely, the problem is that that mobo is for : Socket A for AMD Athlon™ XP / Athlon™ / Duron™ processor And if you have a sempron, surely it won't boot which would explain the error.
Socket A Semprons are just basically Athlon XP T/Breds B's with a different name. However the other Semprons (s754) obviously won't work.
Well although i've never done it myself, people say if you follow instructions carefully then it should be ok.
Not to worry you or anything, but if you f*ck up teh bios, you practically f*ck up the motherboard?? lol i'm trying to keep up with addis' amount of posts
If you don't follow instructions, yes. However, Gigabyte has a dual-BIOS feature on that board, so if you do screw it up, you have a second backup BIOS to take over. Otherwise, you'll have to manually set the speed for the CPU. It may still say "Unknown CPU", but it should work fine. You may simply need to set the FSB to 166MHz, as it sounds like it's picked up the multiplier correctly.
Lol Waffle's don't worry. Not necessarily. If you ballz it up you can try resetting your CMOS or you can order a replacement BIOS chip. A local PC repair shop might do it.
No problem. Post back with any results (if your still able to use your PC). Mainly males here. Apart from the odd one.
It's a fairly accurate stereotype that most people who are going to be on IT based forums or chat boards are going to be male.. as IT is prodominently male. Not that there's anything wrong with the female species having a great/greater understanding than us males. More females need to be in IT As per your problem, as BigB suggested i would make sure your FSB is set correctly :good: If that doesnt work then you need to update your bios so it supports the Semprons micro processor code.
