which do you prefer and/or recommend would be best, not because of price difference but security wise!

and does anyone have any pro's and cons of either?

I can't really vote because I havent tried T-M. AVG was good or me but I don't know how good the other one was.

Trend-Micro is by far the best AV I've ever used. I've been in corperate environments which trusted NAV, and they were often infected before the updates would roll out. Trend Micro cranks out updates at an hourly rate, and they have more/better features, so it's worth the money. Their enterprise-grade server software even runs on Linux (to scan Windows domains, of course). Good tech support too. The only real downside of Trend-Micro is that their engine is very aggressive, which while good for catching aggressive virae, is hard on system resources. It's wise to avoid Trend-Micro on underpowered hardware.

On the other hand, AVG is a great engine, and it's free for home use. I've seen a few AVG systems get infected, but overall it's a good product (and much better than NAV). It runs lighter than Trend-Micro on resources, but it's not quite as aggressive a virus scanner.

My advice is that if you're looking to buy an AV solution, buy Trend Micro. If you just want protection for a home PC or two, AVG is a very good option. Under no circumstances would I use Norton Antivirus or McAffee.

    All the best,
    -AT
