Chipset - Gigabyte Motherboards

I have 10 brand new computers - all alike - with the motherboard being a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G (v4). All documention and software that came with it make reference to 865PE chipset; however, when the computer boots up - it references 856PE.

I'm trying to use Windows98 on a Novell network and the entire system is very flaky and unstable. Among other things, it reboots upon logging into the network and often - the drivers are unistalled when it does reboot.

Could the wrong bios be installed and if so, how do I correct it? If not - are there any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue? Is it possible this motherboard will not support Windows98?

I have loaded software on 3 different computers and all are experiencing the same type problems.

I know that their i845 motherboards would act up if you didn't install the drivers in the right order. I believe it was chipset, then video card, then network adapter. Now, this was under Windows 2000. If you can, I'd highly recommend moving off the Win 9x platform altogether and going to something like Windows 2000.

Besides the power supply (which I'd check first), you could have some problems with the memory. Get ahold of [google]Memtest[/google] for a floppy or bootable CD .iso and run that for 30minutes to an hour (if you can--if not let at least one pass go by~10min).

The only details I remember about the power supply is it's an AOpen 300w power supply.

that's the most likely problem right there. 300Watts isn't nearly enough, especially not with a major name brand power supply. thermaltake 420watt power supply. Very reliable, stable and affordable. $36 on www.newegg.com if not that, and you want to go beefier thermaltake has a good lineup of power supplies with no major pocket holes.

I changed the power supply today but it resulted in no change in performance. I loaded Windows 2000 and it works like a charm.

I've asked Gigabyte for an explanation but no response yet.

Well, Windows 98 and Win2k are built on two different codes, with the latter being based on code designed for business and had to be more stable than the Win9x code of 98.
