apologies if this is in the wrong section :) a friend has burnt a CD (CD-R) with some important files on but for some reason cannot read the CD. im not sure whether he finalised the CD,he says he did, but is there any way to read the disc using some special software or something ? . if not he's going to cry a lot :)

Even if it's not finalized, if you have CD-burning software installed, you should be able to read it...

I've burnt plenty of CD's in the past that didn't work properly.

If he was using, for example, the Roxio Suite, you need to finalise it before you can read the disk on computers without Roxio. From my experience any way.

Maybe what he burnt is on a different volume than the one you're looking at.
Right-click on the drive, go to properties and you should see a "volume" tab. From there you can swap between different volumes, if the cd is a multisession.
