raid 0

hello all I have never put together a raid. I am going to build a new system and wanted to build a Raid 0. Upon my reading of it there are strong suggestions of backing up data daily. If I use sata II with a new asus board and set up two drives on raid 0 can I ad an IDE drive to back up to? Or how would you back up? One more question. with the new boards out today is it easy to set up a raid 0? I have built many computers just not raid. Thanks for any input will be off great value!
 
I wouldn't put RAID in a system if you're using Maxtor drives. They are relatively dependable, but there are quite a few lemons. Also if your under a RAID array and one drive goes, you lose all the data on both drives.
 
would probably use samsung. I am aware of the data lose wondering on back up using IDE don't know if I can.

Raid 0 is good for applications that requires high amounts of bandwidth. I would not use it in a home system, unless you want to game allot as its going to load the games that little bit faster.

I would simple set it up so all my important files are stored on the IDE hard drive, e.g. downloads, documents, work, game saves etc while program files would be stored on raid.

For example I have setup My Documents to be on my (G :) driver so game saves etc get stored there automatically. If any thing was to go wrong with the HD with windows xp on I would still have my important files.

Also I make DVD backups of all my important files maybe once a week.

I see. I will build it for my bussiness and I use it for home. Not to much into gaming. Maybe it would be good for me to just get one sata II drive and run just that with an IDE to back up to? Can I run a sata drive and an IDE drive? Thanks.
