hello all, i was wondering if any of you have this vid card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122201 (or any other equivalent 6600gt, but pref. that one) and if so, what the fps / other info is on that card for cs:s. thanks a bunch! :good:
Most people who have this video card are pretty happy but it's not the greatest for CS:S or HL2, nVidia cards don't play well with that engin. If that's your primary focus get an X700Pro or X800. I bought a 6800 and it doesn't even handle HL2 very well X700 Pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814123146 X800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125171
cs:s is very easy though to get amazing framerates, i have a 6800GT and im still in the sixties under 6xAA and 8xAF you can see benchmarks here http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050705/vga-charts-pcie-06.html only these are on full load, so if you won't crank up the graphics expect alot more frame rates
yeah but the 6800GT is over twice as fast as a 6600GT, everything except for the clockspeeds are half of what the 6800GT has to offer (twice the pipelines, memory interface, vram...). The X800 will play it beautifully.
I agree witht he X800, and there are alot of good deals lately on them, with that id recommend the newest catalyst drivers or omega drivers
Well I didn't personally recommend the X800Pro, but the X800, only due to price. Fortunately they're almost the same card except the X800Pro is clocked a lot higher. You can simply overclock you X800 to the level though if you buy one with a good heatsink *don't buy the Sapphire ones, nice cards/lousey heatsinks usually*
if your looking to overclock, get sapphire cards and artic cooling VGA heatsinks to replace sapphires' bad heatsinks
just had a friend tell me that he is diong fine in hl2 with a leadtec 6600 gt... so im prolly gonna do that :-P
The 6600GT works fine in the Source engine. While, yes, ATi is supposedly optimized for the Source Engine, you're not going to find much of a difference between comparable ATi and nVidia cards.
oh yeah well my 64 meg intel integrated video can run about 10 fps on medium settings........on hl2... and it goes faster if i look at the ground..
intergrated graphics aint supposed ot be good, do you think that extreme, makes then sound good?, an ati radeon 7000 with 1 pixel pipeline would do better than intel extreme graphics.
10 on medium, that's actally pretty impressive. Might almost be playable on low, in windowed mode, though it would look worse than HL1
