Just installed a new DVD DL/RW in my system. system: Intel 1.8 gighz, 1 gig mem Current bios for board manufacturer, current windows xp Sp 2, all things updated as best as I can tell. System meets requirments for the use of this drive. The device is installed as master on the secondary IDE port. No other drives are installed with it. Problem: Bios recognizes the drive. Windows XP recognizes the drive. Drive will not autoplay. I can access the drive and explore it. So know it is functioning to some extent. However, I cannot install or run anything from the drive even though it sees files and folders there. I am running the drive in DMA mode. DVD's are recognized, but appear as corrupted or pixelized. I can copy files to the drive, but the burn to that drive is courrpted even though it shows file names and file folders on the drive. If I try to click on setup.exe on the installation disk for Nero5 it tells me an entry point in kernel32.dll cannot be found. However, I can use my old TDK cd/rw and it will read the disk fine and autoplay/install the software. I like to add this is the second drive, from a totally different manufacturer to show these same symptoms, so sure it is the system, not the drive. LIke to add I removed all the cd burning software I know of on the drive. Including windows media player 10. About at wits end with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That would make it unable to display graphics properly? More than just not autoplaying, there is a conflict somewhere and don't know where it is. (least that is my take on my problem)
try putting the dvd drive on the primary IDE cable as the master. Also try a different IDE cable if possible. Do other drives autoplay if you have any? Or if possible try the drive on another computer to rule out a faulty drive. post back, and I'll give you more suggestions.
