all right my friends band which is unsigned has just asked for a small banner and i made them this, what do you guys think? its relativly simple, and i changed the whole background and tint with a half streak of B&W, this is one of my first real projects haha hows it for a beginner btw PWI is the name of the band
its good, but the water and platform do look very computer generated...for a first 'real' project its good....
yeah i know but its kind of to look that way i took a google image, and completely reedited it and added in stuff
I realise this is your first effort but I'll be frank here - apologies in advance! I don't like it, it *looks* too much like a first effort. I don't like the hard line on the sky, I realise that's probably a deliberate effect but my first impression was that you got the layers messed up. Also what the hell is going on underneath the platform? You seem to have some sort of beam there which really does look like an error rather than a deliberate effect. If you want to keep the design simple and uncluttered then fine but I would suggest making the whole thing grainer or more distorted, I think it would look alright then. I like the general idea, it looks sort of melancholy and quiet, slightly dark, so I get the idea that the band is a rock band that, while not exactly heavy metal, makes relatively dark music. I hope that's the efect your trying to create and that it's not a lets-all-go out-clubbing-and-love-each-other-style pop band. Of course these are just my own opinions and I'm definitely not an artist of any kind but this might be of help to you.
I think it's pretty cool myself but instead of having the blue content end abruptly I'd have it fade out, just vary opacity as it continues so it looks smooth perhaps. And the letters are a little unfinished looking. Don't get too fancy but if it merged with the background a little more it may look better, try different blending techniques like screen or lighten (that might look like crap but fool around with it). Layer effects wouldn't hurt either but just keep it readable. Otherwise good work:good:
no no i wanted people to be hard on this, the advice is quite good, and i'll change some thing around and no penguin dont worry its not one of those pop bands
While I have nothing to say about the theme of the image as it was most likely chose for a reason, the major problem I have with it is that there seems to be a decided lack of contrast to everything. The grey just makes me not want to look at it as my eyes don't want to search for details that are barely there. I mention this from the standpoint of a designer. People will not want to look at something that makes them work to see the detail if there is nothing in the image to draw them in. By adding the subtlest of effects such as a slight sparkle to the water that comes in from the light source/circular object, there is a reason for the eye to be drawn to the image. It will also allow you to keep the jetty in silhouette chich should further enhance the overall effect. Right now it just feels bland and dingey instead of dark and mysterious. Hope that helps!
