D (cd-rom) and E (burner) drive wont read disc unless I leave the disc in the drives and re-boot. If i put a disc in the E drive and click it the drive opens up but it does not read the disc. the D dirve on the other hand will say " is not accessible" ..."improper function".
Both drives (E and D) are recognized on booting up and can be seen in Device manager....I use windows xp Home...if i right click both drives and click on properties then hardware...it would even say " this device is working properly". But as I said it would read the disc as I described in the first paragraph.
Drive E (burner) works also when burning/writing disc fuction is selected.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try going into the device manager, and uninstalling the drives. This should remove them from my computer. Then reboot and then do an add new hardware scan. Scan for hardware added but not installed and it should see the drive. Windows should install the generic drivers for it.

I have a similar problem , liteon 851s, dvd rewriter, plays cd's but won't play or burn to dvd. I uninstalled driver and rebooted , again as said above all test ok in device manager. Did flash update to gsop. Nero info tool shows as master, also have liteon cd burner /dvd rom which has no problems at all. Don't know why it won't see a dvd. any help is appreciated. Tried changing ide cables, disconnecting other burner, checked in bios, all good.
