Well, just a few mins ago I declared my mobo fried. I was modifying timings etc in my bios like usual, and wham, reboots and doesn't even POST. Tried resetting it, but nothing heh. At least it was some junk ECS board . I gotta wait till pay day to buy a new board now lol. I learned my lesson though, if you plan on fucking up your system, have the money to replace the parts
Unplug the power supply from the motherboard and remove the CMOS battery. Leave it out for 30 minutes before putting it back in and plugging the power supply back into the motherboard. Hey, it's something to do while you wait.
Heh I'll try that when I get home, but I doubt that is the problem. I've been lookin around and I think I've found a good replacement. The LANPARTY UT NF3-250GB. AnandTech said it was an excellent board, so I think I'll be getting it in a few days
I wouldnt be too hasty about buying another if it is hard earned cash that you could use otherwise. Do as Big B says, its worth a try. I have had to remove the battery numerous times after being a bit... hopefull with bios settings. You should know that there is no need to leave your system like that for 30 mins. There should be a jumper right next to the battery, that will discharge it in seconds. Either that or just power up without the battery. Messes the checksum up and sets BIOS to defaults. Remember to put it back in tho NOTE: Dont try and 'Hot-Swap' your battery! heh heh
You should know that leaving it out for 30 Minutes is just a failsafe and Sometimes the jumper doesn't help!
Yeah well, its wasted time if you ask me. Why wouldnt the jumper work? Thats crazy talk! Stop talking crazy, crazy man. Leaving the battery out for a quick boot past the POST always works for me. I know its not very healthy to keep powering it down and up so quickly. But its more time efficient. I know that if Im at my computer, fixing it. I wanna fix it. Not laze around for a half hour.
What I always do instead of opening my PC case I just turn off the computer, flick the power supply button off for a second then back on, then quickly off again and hold the power button. This is a trick I use on my computer but don't know about any other. This probably isn't a very healthy way to reset CMOS. I think it's one of Abit's failsafes that reset CMOS automatically if a setting has been changed that stops a POST.
Haha! Lush! Never heard of that. Only for the deft of hand methinx. Might be worth a go one day. Still, very ingeneous of you. How the hell did you figure that out btw?
Ok update... I removed the battery from the board, and tried to boot. Same thing, won't POST. I then left the battery out for approx 30 minutes, threw it back in, same thing. I think it's safe to say its pooched
Hmmm .. yesh. I think thats a safe assumption. You can get a PC repair shop to do a circuit test (normally free) if its worth your time with the MoBo. I did just the same thing with my old machine. I let it overheat...:x:
