    HI
I recently put on windows home ed and everything was fats and good but this week everything is running very slowly, it took me 1/2 hour yesterday to pay a few bills online as the pages were taking forever to change. I have cleaned up my comp but it is still slow, what can it be?

I have zone alarm on could that be the problem?

Can anyone suggest the best antivirus, firewall program for me to use, soemthing simple but good at stopping all the crap etc.

    Thanks
    Diane

Well you can never be completely secure, but you can keep out most of the malware.

For antivirus I would recommend as a free one [google]AVG Free Edition[/google], its very good for the price and I use it on all windows machines.

Zonealarm itself should be fine as long as you have an updated version (even if its the free one).

What you should really be looking at is spyware. Spyware is another form of malware and can seriously impact on performance. Download [google]Spybot Search and Destroy[/google] and also [google]Adaware Personal[/google] and do scans with both. If still bad then also try [google]Ms Antispyware[/google].

    Thanks for that!

I am going to get avg off ebay 99p 2 years!

why are the spywares free? what are the best to buy? Just that I downloaded sypbot before I put my new windows on and the same bloody things kept coming up when it ran through the program, it would get rid of them then they would pop up again at the next one!!!

just want some programs to protect comp, don't mind paying!

can they all be put on ? will they now conflict?

    thanks for your help
    Diane
