I have just got a new laptop with a dvd/cd player writer. the cd wrks ok but I can not get the dvd to play. It seems that I am missing some software to play dvd's. Where can I get this software safely ( I find it hard to believe that I have got a dvd that has not been supplied with software to play or am I naive) ps my friend has got the same computer with the same prob It is a fujitsu siemens pro v 2045
Your PC manufacturer would have to be VERY stingy not to include some sort of DVD codec! Assuming you have a software error, you need to install a codec to be able to play DVDs (films etc). Most programs cost money! Look to Cyberlink or WinDVD. There are also free codecs available that work within Windows Media Player. The best one I have seen is 'Franhaufer DVD codec'. It comes as an installer package so it's nice and simple to set up. Try this: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Stinkys-MPEG-Codec.shtml
Plaese look here - http://www.videohelp.com/tools?listuser=&orderby=Rating&s=11#11 for a list of various video players Some are free and some are not. Great choice.... good luck!
