Help Please..I have Win server 2003 on a raid 1 setup with raptor 36Gig drives. I am upgrading to 160 WD drives. I currently have 3 partitions that I wish to copy and enlarge to the new drives. I think I need to disable raid(I have intel s875 board with onboard adaptec raid) so the system sees two drives(raid only allows system to see it as 1). Am I on the rght track with this. Also partition magic is server complient and I cant get a copy of server magic and the acronis trial suite wont do it. If anyone has done this or can offer assistance I would be etternally grateful. The simpler the better. TY
Hey Geoff, Welcome to hardwareforums. If I understand you correctly, your assumption is probably the right one. Either use the partition tool of your choice to create a resized clone of the NTFS partition on the first of the two RAID'ed drives, or else simply copy the data from the first HDD in your RAID1 to your new HDD and RAID that having removed the first array. Hope my wording comes across clearly here. Slightly O/T: I also want to mention that a software RAID in Windows isn't as dependable as that found in Linux and can be pretty unreliable under some circumstances. In fact, a guy I know who lives up the street from me lost his job for that very reason (his company lost 4 years of data -- ouch). For that reason I always recommend a true hardware RAID controller with Windows if indeed the server must run Windows at all. Otherwise, I recommend Linux.
