I have a Dell Dimension 8300, I just bought a Thermaltake Bach Media Lab VB8000BNS Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Desktop Computer Case ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133169

Is it possible to transfer everything from out of the Dell case, power supply, MB and the rest to this case?

    Thanks...

  2. Of course it is, although i dont see why you actually bought that case ;)

    I was thinking HTPC

  5. I jsut don't like the look of it but whatever you like.
All you u have to do is take the parts out of the dell case and put it in there. It should be no problem, it should all fit.

I don't see any major problems with transferring all the components into the new case although it will be a tight squeeze. I also noticed the case said it's compatible motherboards are ATX only. It'd be worth checking with Dell if your 8300 is infact an ATX motherboard.

I think the main problem is that altough the Dell board will be of ATX standard (size wise), being a 'desktop' board it is srranged slightly different then your classic ATX board. Take a good look at your board and make sure that slots and connectord are 'in-line' with the new case.

For example, my old dell was an ATX board which was a classic shape like most of the boards you will put in a tower PC.
However, I am working with an optiplex at the moment and although the board is ATX (actually Micro ATX) it is arranged in some other funky way, obviously to acommodate a much smaller space.

    Good luck

You might have a few issues. As sabashuali mentioned, DELL manufacture 'proprietary' motherboard form factors. Some of their boards may comply to ATX standards while others may not

The only other issues you may come across are the front USB/Firewire/Audio slots. Your motherboard may not have the correct pins to ulilise them.

Of course, the only way you are gonna find out is by trying. Good luck to you ;)

I'm gonna do it after Christmas. If theres a will theres a way.
I have plenty of drills, hole cutters and saws and multimeters and nuts and bolts , wrenchs, hell, I even have access to a backhoe if I need it. It seems like a fun project to me, this and that case of bud in the fridge will help to pass away these cold winter days............................
