sorry if this in wrong place. is it possible to be downloading using a program whilst you computer is in standby?
I don't think the network adapter is used while the pc is in standby. I derived this answer from a crude experiment. When i'm on AOL instant messenger and i hit the standby key people say i signed off. Once my computer "wakes" i appear to be 'online.' All this and the program was never shut down or anything. I tested this by using my laptop and computer at the same time. I guess my next test will be tonight, i'll leave something downloading and then hit "standby" if the filesize is bigger then bingo it works. But for now i don't think so.
Ok, well i didn't get a chance to download and go into standby, but i discovedred that if you allow hibernating under the power options that you can hibernate the pc and still be online. I just did it and my friend told me "you never signed off" Tonight i will test the download theory. Keep your fingers crossed. By the way i will test downloading both in hibernating and standby. Edit* didn't work in hibernation mode...sorry
I have only tested hibernation mode, thats when all ur stuff is saved to the hard disk and then the computer shuts down completely, everything sounds as if it has shut down and the only thing that can turn it back on is pressing the power button. I have not done any other test on "stand by" mode where you can power on the system by simply hitting enter or moving the mouse.
Standby or Hibernation will not allow downloading. In both states, your system basically just saves your data, and all the programs that are open.. then when u come out of hibernation of standby your computer will reopen the applications via the memory/hdd to that of which they were when u chose to go into standby or hibernation.
