Hey ... I'd like to build a PC, not for gaming but for watching movies with it (on a TV), burning dvds etc..., and there's that one case I'd like to use ... http://www.hardwaremods.com/reviews/cases/aspire/aspire-x-qpack-review.html And it all should cost about $300 What would be the minimal specs for such a system? Thx
Personaly I would prefer to get a media centre type case. It is shaped like a desktop so it is very low and can fit nicely in the TV cabinet. Goes a bit better with the like of other media players like DVD or VCR. Something like this- http://www.savastore.com/productinf...me=Savastore&product_id=10279033&pid=45&tid=2
I agree but the only problem with those smaller desktop cases is you can't fit full size PCI cards in them. Hence, you can't install a TV card. By the way German, have you chosen a TV card yet?
I am not speaking from experience but surely if they make case like these (or simillar) there are hardware parts to support such a size. no?
Who knows? Maybe there are, maybe there aren't. I guess it's just one of those risks you have to take in life
Ok thnx, I wanted the case to be more mobile so that I could take it to friends etc... but what hardware should I put into this?? I mean what processor does it require for dvd burning and watching dvds and so on ... I don't really want it for games.. I'd like to get it as cheap as possible...
I'm not entirely sure, but the Via C3 platform is targeted at stuff like that. As long as your just burning DVD's, and not converting (the C3 isn't made for heavy CPU tasks like that). The motherboards are kinda expensive until you realize that the CPU is included. Now, these are soldered onto the motherboard, so they may not be exactly what you want if you'd like some upgrades down the road. However, these typically don't employ fans, or maybe 1 or 2 at most. Basically, given your applications, the C3 would be something you may seriously want to consider. You don't have anything that really needs gobs of CPU power, so it's hard to justify spending a ton of cash on a Pentium or Athlon system. You might also see about a low-end Shuttle XPC or other SFF setup and slap a Celeron or Sempron in it too. For what you need, that's overkill, but it'd be the other cheap option that should be easy to find. You might also see if you can get ahold of some old Pentium 3 CPU and motherboard on the cheap. Right now, I can't see the case you linked, so it's hard to say what would work. If you look around, you might be able to find some half-height cards that'll work for you, but those are harder to find, even in the US, so consider that if you want TV tuning capabilities. There are external units, but those usually start at around $100USD versus the $50 or so (sometimes even less) for internal tuner cards.
