Hi, well im building my first pc and I think everything is connected (I am not sure as I have very little computer knowage) so I turn it on and im getting 1 longer bleep and 3 short bleeps. What can I do?
This could mean two things: Graphics card failure (most likely) - Graphics card not seated properly - No graphics card installed - Graphics card not working properly - Incompatible graphics card (you might have installed an AGP3.0 card into a AGP 2.0 slot for example) RAM Failure - RAM not seated properly - Bad RAM - Wrong type of RAM - RAM installed in the wrong slot (always install RAM in the slot nearest the processor)
ok thanks for that, the graphics card is an x850xt pcie, the board is pcie and I connected the pcie connector from the psu to the GPU card also, when I press the power button all fans work including the graphcis card fan. Why would the graphics card not be working its new
Oh, I assumed your graphics card would be AGP. I don't think your graphics card is at fault because the fan is spinning as you said. This would mean the card is firmly in it's slot, and the power cable has been fitted correctly. Therefore, I would point your finger at the RAM. How many sticks do you have? If you have several, you should take them all out, and try each of them on there own. Make sure the slot nearest the processer is always occupied with a stick. Are you certain your RAM is compatible with your motherboard?
Thx, i've tried switching ther ram about and it made no difference when I bought the mobo I bought it for this new ram I had XMS2 twin pair at 675mhz or something so im pretty sure its right i'll check that again though.
phew the memory is compatable I checked on the corsairs site, there is a feature you select your memory and it comes up with motherboards. Maybe you can ease my mind on this one the motherboard says it supports 667 but the speed of the ram says 675 would this be ok?
To be honest with you, I don't know that much about modern DDR(2) RAM. I'm still living in a Pentium 3 SDRAM world Normally the RAM would work, but not at it's optimal speed. It would be forced to run at the motherboard's speed. Let's say I install PC133 SDRAM (133MHz) into a motherboard running at 100MHz. The RAM would be compatible, but would operate at 33MHz less speed. You may have to wait for some of the other members to post.
My suggestion would be to start by posting as many details about the system as you can. PSU, Mobo, RAM, CPU etc. The more details you give the better. It looks to me (and I am no expert) that you will need to go therough the build properly and troubleshoot each part. For example. Make sure your system board (mobo) is not shorting anywhere. That sort of thing. Then, unplug all components apart from your CPU and try and boot into your BIOS. Pay attention to the beeps again and compare them to your BIOS manual. If the system goes into the BIOS try and connect one component like a RAM stick, as Megamaced suggested, and then try again and so forth. Make sure that your BIOS recognises the components properly. Post back with your progress. Take two paracetamols and call me in the morning.... LOL only kidding.
Hi, I have some progress I think that the long beep and 3 short beeps can mean something is wrong with the peripherial parts Which would seem like it is the problem as the thing that are not lighting up are all peripherial parts ie. mouse, keyboard, monitor. This I think is the best lead to follow up but im not quite sure what I can do to check the connections for peripherial things are correct or that they work. Any idea?
Simple - try them in another system (First see if any pins are broken) Mice, keyboards and monitors are universal in most cases...
They work im sure. They were all working fine on my last PC about a week ago.(the old pc is sold now) I was thinking more along the lines of if the thing you connect peripherials to is working. What would make them not work basically
It is very hard to ascertain. Your feed back is not very accurate or specific. It could be that your board is faulty but before you can start climbing that tree you need to try and make sure the other parts are OK. You could always go back to the seller and ask for the board to be checked. However, they probably charge you for the pleasure if the board is OK. I am afraid there is no quick solution here. As I mentioned, you need to carefully scrutinise each component. Make sure all jumpers are set correctly. If you have front pannel audio and USB make sure these are not conflickting with your rear ones etc. Start with nothing and climb your way up. To start off you do not need any so-called peripherals to be connected. Just be guided by the beeps at first. Good luck. Tip - if you post the board's make and model, it could be that someone here has already suffered/joyed with it and might be able to help further.
Thankyou for your good advice it is much appricaited. My mobo is PCIe 'abit AL8 3rd eye 2' and my RAM is corsairs 'TWINX 1024-5400C4' and the GPU connect 3d PCIe x850XT and the case is Antec Sonata 2 (comes with PSU)
