Hi, decided to post it here becouse free software thread seems to be dead, and has warning on it.

anyway, i went and bought PC advisor from the shops, and it got a cd with it, had this program on called Desktop Sidebar, its a brilliant thing, got rss feeds on it, can have web page links on it, messenger, calender, media player, clock, local weather, system info etc...

its a free download from http://www.desktopsidebar.com/ i reccomend you get it, its brilliant, and customizable.

Willz told me about this over MSN Messenger, I downloaded it, it's awesome. I've got HWF RSS Feeds and get links to the latest threads/posts, Weather, Clock, Performance Panel, MSN Messenger Users Online.
There's many different panels to have on there - it's quite a useful thing.

    Ah! I've used that before!

I think I first encountered it about 3 years ago. It's pretty neat, but my only quibble is that it eats up system resources

This looks similar to Google Desktop. Cool though.

Since when can ANYTHING be too "googley"? Blasphemy I tell you! As for the side bar, I'm downloading it right now to see what all the fuss is about.

I've used it before, and personally, it's a pain in the ass.
After exiting it or un-installing it, it left my desktop corrupted and all funky like.
Eats way too much memory too!
But if you guys like it, i aint stopping you using it.

Don't get me wrong - I like google, it's just that the sidebar seemed too googley for my tastes.

yea, does eat away loads of memory, infact makes loads of programs slower, but hey, i find it so good, coz of that i think, well if the thing thats eating all the memory is good, then the memory aint going to waste :p

i dont use anything thats intensive at moment, so sidebar is ok for me, does muck around with desktop tho :\

Security flaws are only if you search across computers.
