I was just shoppin around at newegg for a new processor when i stubmbled into an 11$ price diff between 2 processors w/ the only difference being the E6. Which brings us to my question of what does the e6 mean?? And how important is it?? Here are the 2 links to each processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103568 thx
personally i don't know the differences, but there is a review on that same page where someone says that particular e6 is not as good an overclocker as standard venice processors.
E6 is the CPU-Stepping used by the CPU. The CPU stepping is basically the revision code. Usually with later models in CPU's, the stepping number increases which may be for bug fixes or for design changes.
The E6 is the latest stepping, and seems to allow for some new memory dividers from what I've gleaned. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not, but I do know it's the latest stepping on the Venice core that you're looking at.
