    Hi all ,
    I had an installation of win 2000 which i couldn't boot to. It was freezing at the windows screen ( after the bios loading and the f8 option to choose ).
    I tried to boot :
    1. from the emergency repair disk but failed.
    2. from the original win 2000 Cd which succeded but when reboot from the HD failed.
    I also tried the repair option but wasn't able to boot from the HD. At a point i wasn't able to boot anymore neither from the win 2000 CD.
    I decided to install win 2000 at the same HD without making a new partition and now i have win2000 at C:\WINNT1 ( the new ) and C:\WINNT ( the old ) The file systen is NTFS. The newly ( second ) installation is accessible and i can see the disks. Is there a way i could transfer or merge the old installation to the new one ? My nightmare is to do all the programm installations from scratch ,configurate the varius programms and so on. I'd like to repair the first installation of win 2000 and after i can boot to it , delete the second one.
    Any idea would be highly aprecciated.
    Thanks in advange .
    :) Geros

    Try Repairing windows

    Keyboard: regular or USB keyboard? Remove USB keyboard, and connect to PS2
    connector, if so.
    Remove modem too if you have one ....to simplify repair. And network
    card. Put original graphics card as well.

    I think it's unlikely that you will be able to restore your old installation. However, this might work for you:

    Route 1) My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > tick 'show hidden files and folders' + Uncheck 'hide protected operating system files'.
    Navagate to C:\ > Open up boot.ini > Alter it so it looks like below:

    Code:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 OLD"
    /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT1="Microsoft Windows 2000 NEW"
    /fastdetect
    Save the changes and reboot your computer. Select Windows 2000 OLD at the boot loader screen. You should now be able to boot into your original installation. Let us know if this works for you!

    I tried what megamaced and Karanislove suggested but both failed to boot at the same point.
    Any other idea ?

    Assuming you copied over my boot.ini text exactly, tell me in detail what happened when you rebooted your computer?

    Did you see the boot loader?
    Were the two Windows installations listed?
    What happened when you selected Windows 2000 OLD?
    What happened when you selected Windows 2000 NEW?

    yes
    yes
    it displayed the windows screen ( logo ) with the blu proggression bar and it frosts at the middle of the proggression.
    it logged at the new installation of the windows.
    but all that was the same as previus.The boot.ini i had was

    [boot loader]
    timeout=12
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT1
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT1="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

    I think you are running out of luck. I suggest you try the repair option on the Windows 2000 Installation CD. It will detect that you have two Windows installations present on your hard drive. Select the C:\WINNT installation and select repair.

    That's my lot i'm afraid :(
