Guys, i'm having a serious problem since one and half years back.... Please help... My PC configuration is: AMD Athlon 1700+ Mercury KOB 740Fx motherboard 120 Gb Samsung HDD (80+40) Sony Floppy Drive Sony Combo Drive 52x/32x/52x/16x 512Mb Ram No accelerator card.... although the graphics card is SiS (inbuilt) and so is the sound card. I used to play Max Payne earlier and have completed both the parts..... But, now whenever i try starting it or any other game for that matter, my systems hangs.... It is not able to run any games. Actually, i had left my system in my flat for sometime and when i took it back, i discovered that the RAM was broken and the socket was also a bit faulty..... due to which (once i changed the RAM), whenever i used boot, i would not get the POST beep and when i would re-start my PC, then i would get it...... (sometimes it used to happen that i would have to re-boot my system 2-3 times to hear the POST beep!). Sometimes it also happens that, on switching ON my system the POST beep would come, but there would be no display on the screen. Anyway, i dunno if that has anything to do with this problem, i just told ya so that u know that this problem is also occuring....! Anyway, so now can someone advice me as to what i can do? I know the game can run without a 3D acclelerator card and hence i dont need one....
can you be more specific like what exactly happens you try to open a game and game and it won't open or you get into the game and it freezes?
See, i'm able to install the game and run it. But when it loads, it'll freeze and so will my computer. Sometimes, it will load and then the next moment it will freeze. I dunno what kind of error is it. I have updated my graphics and sound drivers, yet the problem persists.

Hi karan, thanks for the link. But i've installed the drivers properly and i don't think there is an issue with them.. bcoz my system runs fine. Another thing to add here.. when i run the directx utility, i am able to run the Directdraw but not the Direct3d test. The system hangs while performing the Direct3d test. Dunno why its happening... Any suggestions?
ok about the direct 3d thing that can be a lot of stuff, for instance i had to install my monitor drivers for direct 3d to work. You could try downloading/or installing dirext x agian.if that doesn't work i would do a web search on that topic. for the games thing, the direct 3d could be an issues but that would most likely cause an in game issue. ok so i could be the power supply, i had the same probelm on one of my machines a while ago, but the other thing i was going to suggest was a faulty motherboard,(which you said the ram socket is broken) as they can cause a lot of issues. recently i had a freezing issue and it was due to a faulty motherboard. with the booting problem would be because of the broken socket which the computer needs the ram to boot. OK so what is the wattage of your powersupply?
wat psu are u using with specofocations aswell plz and the manufacturer. if its a sh*t company that has no rep, then i can almost certainly say it is the psu
