Are you getting any sort of beeps with the error?

Have you entered BIOS/CMOS Setup and used the "Reset Default Configuration" (or something similar) option?

Are you able to boot into Windows?

i m not getting any sorts of error in the later stages.only when the pc is turned on i get some errors "CMOS checksum bad","CMOS/GPNSV error" etc
then i usually change the processor speed in the setup(else it will post to do so).then it reboots and everything works fine.i have both linux and xp.and both load without any problem.

the only thing i can think of that could fix your problem, and thats a BIOS/CMOS reset

don't need to know your M/B or CPU
basically there are 2 ways to reset the BIOS, basically, unplug your pc's power cable then remove the lid (if you don't have an anti static strap, just touch an exposed metal part of the pc case about every minute, to avoid static damage) then look on the motherboard for the battery

way 1, remove the battery for at least 10 seconds (but NOT with melal tweesers) then put battery back in

way 2, near the battery are a set of 3 pins with a small plastic jumper on either pins 1 & 2 or on pins 2 & 3 (can't remember which)
    if its on 1 & 2 pull off and put onto 2 & 3
    if its on 2 & 3 pull off and put onto 1 & 2

leave it there for a least 10 seconds then put the jumper back to its original position
replace the pc's lid and plug in the power cable and turn on the pc, you'll now need to reset the date & time in the BIOS and change the HDD detect to auto and possibally set the first boot device to HDD0, now all should be ok
