I want to down grade from Win2k to Windows 98. Now, I think I would have to format the hard drive, but the question is, how do i do it,? One way could be that I boot with with the windows 2000 floppy, format the HD with FAT32 and then exit the setup. Then use the windows 98 Boot disk to boot and install win98. Any other better solutions,..
you could just install 98 & use a bootable CD (like Partition Magic, www.acronis.com Partition Expert 2k3 (loads more, too many to list) to set active partition (partition to boot from)
The easiest would be to wipe W2K and start again. Can I ask why you want to install an Operating System that is 8 years old?
First you will need a windows 98 boot disk, and you will need a copy of windows 98... Next I would defrag first before doing anything.. Also scandisk to make sure your hard drive is ok. Then stick in the win 98 boot disk and restart computer. let the boot disk do it thing and then choose to start pc with CD rom support. Next you will have to fdisk, at A:/ type fdisk..... then choose option 3 to delete your drive, the choose to create a new drive option 1 , then after your new drive is done you will have to format that new drive. After the the new drive has been formattted, you should be able to install you windows 98 on D:/ drive or E:/ drive.. you just type E:/setup .... good luck... if you run into problems I can help you,I do this almost every day.
