I recently purchase a samsung dvd-r/rw drive for my laptop but the bios and xp do not recognise the drive.
The system camr with a dvd/cd-r/rw drive that worked fine but I need a dvd-r/rw work work purposes.
Anyone have an idea how I can get the laptop to see this device, please??
Drive model purchased is SN-W082
Old model SN-324
Surely Samsung Laptop can't be that precice about what will and won't work in their machines, Can they????

for that drive to work you need to flash your BIOS and download drivers or get a DVD-RW that is not discontinued
 
If the DVD drive is not seen by the BIOS then it's either defective or incompatible with your computer. Full stop.

Assuming that you plugged it in correctly :)

That can be the solution. Check your Laptop model and look for the latest driver on the manufacturers website.
I recon that first read about that new BIOS file, what kind of updates you will gonna get with it. If you find your solution there then go for it otherwise leave it because it can be dangerous:swear:

Alternatively you can also get a DVD-RW that is not discontinued and compatible with your system.
 
Flashing the BIOS is risky and does not guarantee results.

Remember guys, flashing or resetting the BIOS is not the solution to everything! :confused:
 
Collective reply to all your input and suggestions, Bios upgrades scare the hell out of me but I have done a few successful ones on Dell systems amd my very own MSI board.
I had no idea that the drive was a discontinued one as advised so I will have to think clearly on my next step. If I can get clear confirmation from somewhere that the bios is the culprit then I think I am competent enough around pc's/laptops to have a go at it.
What the hell, its only a bit of machinary.

A BIOS upgrade is unlikely to solve the problem. I think you should look at replacing the Samsung drive for something you know is compatible.

i'd have thought that would sort it, don't suppose a firmware would help
 
This may be a bit late in coming but to the people who answered my question, I do not appreciate sarcasm at this level.
I asked a simple question for which I expected a simple answer, only to be beaten into submission by a bunch of idiots.

Where's the sarcasm in that? It's the straight and simple answer you were looking for. Laptops use proprietory CD-ROM devices, so only those produced by the laptop manufacturer will work.

I'd like to point out we don't get paid to give support. We give up our own free time to help others. You didn't pay for our support, so don't grumble when you don't like the feedback.
