Right basically ive aquired a windows 98 packard bell pc to just muck about with, i have decided to build it up and upgrade it, i have decided to upgrade memory first as it only has 32mb (2 X 16). Basically i just wondered can i just slip in a couple of say 32mb sticks (64mb in total) or more, and they will just work?? Will it automatically detect it??? I have never installed memory on an old motherboard before only new ones, will my motherboard be ok with more memory etc??? Thanks in advance.

how old is the 98 machine, upgrading RAM is one way to go - start by checking the type of RAM you need, possibly 72pin SIMMS or PC 66 / 100 DIMMS, the way i'd check is by looking, but a mobo & CPU is what i'd upgrade first then look at RAM & grfx

Are you able to get online with this computer ? If so you can just punch in memory upgrade at Google and you will find a bunch of them..
next allot of these places have a configurator to see just what you can use and need. The other way would be to open the case up and pull the chip you have in there now out and read what it says on it. It is problably a pc-100 or a pc-133
chip. You could put in a 128 pc-100 chip ...
