I have a G3 powerpc and I would like to install some version of linux on it, Any suggestions ? Also Will linux be able to find all the mac hardware to setup it up right..?
You can try downloading Ubuntu 6.06 for mac from Welcome - Ubuntu Linux It should detect most of your hardware.
Hi Ghostman The G3 has been discussed here before. There are a number of threads (or should I say, dreads) about it. As I have not really got a lot of time at the moment, click on the 'search' link and type in 'imac'. There are at least three threads dealing with your question. Good luck
If I was you, I would run Xubuntu. It's just Ubuntu but with the lightweight Xfce desktop by default rather than Gnome, which is the default desktop in Ubuntu. Gnome would run very slowly on a G3, so it's probably your best option. You can get the Xubuntu CD for PPC here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/dapper/release/xubuntu-6.06-desktop-powerpc.iso
Do they have the free shipp it in Xubuntu ? I don't have DSL,only Highspeed dialup... Or is there anyway Anyone can send me a copy of Xubuntu ?
Yeah, unfortunately "highspeed" dialup is merely proxied upstream, so download speed is not any more substantial than a normal dialup connection. I am willing to mail you a copy, just PM me your mailing address.
