i'll admit i'm a pretty big elder scrolls fan i've even played daggerfel. Anyways i was just thinking how amazing morrowind was, i really got into it, there was always something new no matter where you went and you'd always be able to find something sweet or have some crazy quest, basicaly it was sweet. So i figured yes oblivion should be the massiveness that i would have come to expect of elder scrolls games, but in my opinion it really fell short. I didn't feel like anything i did mattered, and there wasn't even a boss fight. That and in morrowind at any moment or around the next corner you know you could run into that really sweet item, but there isn't anything special in oblivion. These are just my opninions, anyone have any other input

I only ever played Morrowind on the Xbox, and 1st person games do my head in on consoles so I never really got too involved with it.

I wanted to try out something beasty with my new graphics card and was recommended Oblivion.

I have to say I think it's incredible. I find the landscapes and sheer size of it quite astounding, and pretty inspiring, especially when you see the mountains in the sunset.

I'm only a mere level 12 at the moment but I'm hooked, done like 100 quests and I still keep finding more to do.

So in short, I think it's absolutely awesome, but I'm yet to give Morrowind a true go yet, so I may have to once Oblivion gets boring.

One thing, it is incredibly buggy for me, crashes about every hour or so for no real reason.

yeah i read up on that and there is some log or processes that will build up, i have some random crashes as well but not to often, yes its very demanding, anyways i just think oblivion lacks a little depth, or i should say compared to morrowind, that and everything kinda feels the same no matter where i am, i'm not bored by any means and its definetly a great game i'm just saying it seems to be less that morrowind

I know what swansen is talking about. I noticed the same problem. I put ALOT of time into morrowind for the xbox and loved it. I will admit I only put around 6 hours into Oblivion which is a great game but.. it limits you too much on finding stuff that pertains to your level. In morrowind you could get lucky and find a pair of glass boots in an abandon temple but in Oblivion that just doesnt happen.

Dont get me wrong Oblivion is an awsome game for the few hours I played but I dont understand why they limited your findings. It takes away some of the fun.

exactly and i feel a lack of power in morrowind i could jump over three building at once but now i can't make it over a decent size bolder, i've put in something like 15 hours, and yes it is a good game, but you know

Never played morrow wind, to be honest was turned off by the seer amount of reading that was in that game.

Oblivion is good so far, graphically stunning for sure but the game just doesn't have that special something to really make it great. Enemies level up with you so eventually there is no need to go to Oblivion for things like daedric armor as regular bandits will be sporting it.

Enchanting and spell making is really cool but you always hit the wall by the amount of intelligence or size of the soul gem. Like you can't make any enchanted weapon with more than 1600 charge, you can't enchant arrows even though they are seen throughout the game and your magic, once maxed, is still pretty weak in the amount that you get. When I did the "finger of the mountain" mission later in the game, the prize at the end also leveled up with me. A friend did the mission right away and got a pathetic 6 damage in an area of 15. I did it much later and wound up with a spell doing 200 dmg in a 15 area but the amount of magic required to use it is impossible to get even with my intelligence maxed and all of my equipment enchanted.

I think in the end the mod community will make Oblivion what it should be.

I agree that it is a bit disappointing. Fun, but you can just *see* how much it could have been better.

When you have about a dozen mods running, it feels like a totally different game though. A *lot* of these mods do things that should have been in the original game in the first place... and $3 for a stupid horse armor mod? (just using it as an example, the other mods are just as bad in the cool/expensive ratio). Good thing I'm playing it on the PC!

I got PJ's spell compendium installed (and Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, and Mighty Magicka, and LOD replacement, and ... ) In PJ's spell compendium, there is a nice spell called "Push", which is basically a "force push" spell. It is WAY fun to use, and useful in combat when you are an unarmored 'pure' mage... Why don't they just include some of these beauties in the first place?

And that main quest... gets really boring at certain points. It just feels uninspired. Like they tried to make the best game they could, only they forgot to give it a "soul", a "personality".

On the up side, most of the side-quests are excellent, and Oblivion is certianly *funnier* than Morrowind (meaning there is more humor present).

The dungeon crawling is pretty fun, although I also think more cool items might be found (there's a leveled loot/better loot mod that might help with that).

It's also pretty sad that the majority of people on the PC resort to mods NOT because they want to try something different, but because they don't like the way the original game works.

What's even more sad is that the game has been overhyped... and to say that it did not live up to the hype would be a serious understatement...

So it's both fun to play it for what it is (at least with a boatload of mods installed), and disappointing when you think about what it *could* have been.
